بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm

تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Tabārakalladhī biyadihil-mulku wa huwa ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr.

Blessed is He in whose Hand is all sovereignty, and He is Most Capable of everything.

الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُورُ

Alladhī khalaqal-mawta wal-ḥayāta liyabluwakum ayyukum aḥsanu ‘amalan wa huwal-‘azīzul-ghafūr.

He created death and life to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, the All-Forgiving.

الَّذِي خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا ۖ مَا تَرَىٰ فِي خَلْقِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ مِن تَفَاوُتٍ ۖ فَارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِن فُطُورٍ

Alladhī khalaqa sab‘a samāwātin ṭibāqan, mā tarā fī khalqir-Raḥmāni min tafāwut, farji‘il-baṣara hal tarā min fuṭūr.

He created seven layered heavens. You will see no flaw in the creation of the Most Merciful. Look again—do you see any cracks?

ثُمَّ ارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ الْبَصَرُ خَاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ

Thummarji‘il-baṣara karratayni yanqalib ilaykal-baṣaru khāsi’an wa huwa ḥasīr.

Then look again and again; your sight will return to you humbled and exhausted.

وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَابِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَاهَا رُجُومًا لِّلشَّيَاطِينِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ السَّعِيرِ

Wa laqad zayyannas-samā’ad-dunyā bimaṣābīḥa wa ja‘alnāhā rujūmal-lish-shayāṭīn, wa a‘tadnā lahum ‘adhābas-sa‘īr.

Indeed, We adorned the nearest heaven with lamps and made them missiles against devils, and We have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.

وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ

Wa lilladhīna kafarū birabbihim ‘adhābu jahannama wa bi’sal-maṣīr.

For those who disbelieve in their Lord is the punishment of Hell. What an evil destination!

إِذَا أُلْقُوا فِيهَا سَمِعُوا لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِيَ تَفُورُ

Idhā ulqū fīhā sami‘ū lahā shahīqan wa hiya tafūr.

When they are thrown into it, they will hear it roaring as it boils.

8

تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الْغَيْظِ ۖ كُلَّمَا أُلْقِيَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَا أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌ

Takādu tamayyazu minal-ghayẓ. Kullamā ulqiya fīhā fawjun sa’alahum khazanatuhā alam ya’tikum nadhīr.

It almost bursts with rage. Every time a group is thrown into it, its keepers will ask them, “Did no warner come to you?”

قَالُوا بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَاءَنَا نَذِيرٌ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ مِن شَيْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَالٍ كَبِيرٍ

Qālū balā qad jā’anā nadhīrun fakadhdhabnā wa qulnā mā nazzalallāhu min shay’in in antum illā fī ḍalālin kabīr.

They will say, “Yes, a warner came to us, but we denied him and said, ‘Allah has not sent down anything. You are only in great error.’”

وَقَالُوا لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِي أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ

Wa qālū law kunnā nasma‘u aw na‘qilu mā kunnā fī aṣḥābis-sa‘īr.

And they will say, “Had we listened or used our reason, we would not have been among the people of the Blaze.”

فَاعْتَرَفُوا بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًا لِّأَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ

Fa‘tarafū bidhanbihim fa suḥqan li-aṣḥābis-sa‘īr.

So they will confess their sins. Away with the people of the Blaze!

12

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَيْبِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ

Innal-ladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum bil-ghaybi lahum maghfiratun wa ajrun kabīr.

Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and a great reward.

13

وَأَسِرُّوا قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ اجْهَرُوا بِهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ

Wa asirrū qawlakum awijharū bih, innahū ‘alīmun bidhātiṣ-ṣudūr.

Whether you keep your words secret or speak openly, surely He knows what is within the hearts.

أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ

Alā ya‘lamu man khalaqa wa huwal-Laṭīful-Khabīr.

Does He who created not know, while He is the Most Subtle, the All-Aware?

15

هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا فَامْشُوا فِي مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا مِن رِّزْقِهِ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Huwalladhī ja‘ala lakumul-arḍa dhalūlan famshū fī manākibihā wa kulū mir-rizqih, wa ilayhin-nushūr.

He is the One who made the earth manageable for you, so walk upon its paths and eat from His provision. And to Him is the resurrection.

16

أَأَمِنتُم مَّن فِي السَّمَاءِ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَمُورُ

A-amintum man fis-samā’i an yakhsifa bikumul-arḍa fa idhā hiya tamūr.

Do you feel secure that He who is above will not cause the earth to swallow you, and suddenly it begins to shake?

17

أَمْ أَمِنتُم مَّن فِي السَّمَاءِ أَن يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ

Am amintum man fis-samā’i an yursila ‘alaykum ḥāṣiban fasata‘lamūna kayfa nadhīr.

Or do you feel secure that He who is above will not send against you a violent storm? Then you will know how true My warning was.

18

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ

Wa laqad kadhdhaballadhīna min qablihim fakayfa kāna nakīr.

And those before them also denied, so how severe was My rejection!

19

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَى الطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَافَّاتٍ وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا الرَّحْمَٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ بَصِيرٌ

Awa lam yaraw ilāṭ-ṭayri fawqahum ṣāffātin wa yaqbiḍn. Mā yumsikuhunna illar-Raḥmān. Innahū bikulli shay’in baṣīr.

Have they not seen the birds above them spreading and folding their wings? None holds them up except the Most Merciful. Indeed, He sees everything.

20

أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي هُوَ جُندٌ لَّكُمْ يَنصُرُكُم مِّن دُونِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ ۚ إِنِ الْكَافِرُونَ إِلَّا فِي غُرُورٍ

Amman hādhalladhī huwa jundun lakum yanṣurukum min dūnir-Raḥmān? Inil-kāfirūna illā fī ghurūr.

Who is there that can be an army for you to help you besides the Most Merciful? The disbelievers are only deceived.

21

أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُ ۚ بَل لَّجُّوا فِي عُتُوٍّ وَنُفُورٍ

Amman hādhalladhī yarzuqukum in amsaka rizqah? Bal lajjū fī ‘utuwwin wa nufūr.

Who can provide for you if He withholds His provision? Yet they persist in arrogance and aversion.

22

أَفَمَن يَمْشِي مُكِبًّا عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِ أَهْدَىٰ أَمَّن يَمْشِي سَوِيًّا عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

Afaman yamshī mukibban ‘alā wajhihī ahdā amman yamshī sawiyyan ‘alā ṣirāṭim mustaqīm?

Is one who walks fallen upon his face better guided, or one who walks upright on a straight path?

23

قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِي أَنشَأَكُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ ۖ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ

Qul huwalladhī ansha’akum wa ja‘ala lakumus-sam‘a wal-abṣāra wal-af’idah, qalīlam mā tashkurūn.

Say, “He is the One who brought you into being and gave you hearing, sight, and hearts. Little are you grateful.”

24

قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِي ذَرَأَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

Qul huwalladhī dhara’akum fil-arḍi wa ilayhi tuḥsharūn.

Say, “He is the One who spread you throughout the earth, and to Him you will all be gathered.”

25

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

Wa yaqūlūna matā hādhāl-wa‘du in kuntum ṣādiqīn.

And they say, “When will this promise come to pass, if you are truthful?”

26

قُلْ إِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ عِندَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

Qul innamal-‘ilmu ‘indallāhi wa innamā anā nadhīrun mubīn.

Say, “The knowledge of that is only with Allah, and I am only a clear warner.”

27

فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيئَتْ وُجُوهُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَقِيلَ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تَدَّعُونَ

Falammā ra’awhu zulfatan sī’at wujūhulladhīna kafarū wa qīla hādhalladhī kuntum bihī tadda‘ūn.

But when they see it approaching, the faces of those who disbelieved will be distressed, and it will be said, “This is what you used to call for.”

28

قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِيَ اللَّهُ وَمَن مَّعِيَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَن يُجِيرُ الْكَافِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

Qul ara’aytum in ahlakaniyallāhu wa man ma‘iya aw raḥimanā faman yujīrul-kāfirīna min ‘adhābin alīm.

Say, “Have you considered: whether Allah causes me and those with me to die, or has mercy upon us, who will protect the disbelievers from a painful punishment?”

29

قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ

Qul huwar-Raḥmānu āmannā bihī wa ‘alayhi tawakkalnā, fasata‘lamūna man huwa fī ḍalālin mubīn.

Say, “He is the Most Merciful. We believe in Him, and upon Him we place our trust. Soon you will know who is clearly astray.”

30

قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَاؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَاءٍ مَّعِينٍ

Qul ara’aytum in aṣbaḥa mā’ukum ghawran faman ya’tīkum bimā’in ma‘īn.

Say, “Have you considered: if your water were to sink deep into the earth, then who could bring you flowing water?”
